Irish mobster shot by two 'ninja-like' masked men in Marbella

It was apparently like a scene in the movies when two masked gunmen arrived at the Elviria shopping center near Marbella Saturday evening and shot Gerard "Hatchet" Kavanagh nine times in his back and head, killing him execution-style.

Prince puts luxury Marbella mansion up for sale

If you have a cool 5.6 million euros handy, you too could live in the style of the legendary artist formerly known as Prince.

Bought as a present for his former wife, Prince has decided to get rid of his luxurious Marbella mansion.

Mayte García, Prince’s former wife, was the ‘you’ in his first and legendary hit ‘For you’.  Considered by Prince to be “the most beautiful girl in the world”, the former Latin dancer became his wife on Valentine’s Day of 1996.

Prince held a concert in Marbella in 1990 and fell in love with the city and its luxurious side, including Rolls Royces, Ferraris and luxurious villas.  He bought a plot in an area of Marbella known rather appropriately as “El Paraíso” or the paradise.  Located in an ideal position close to the beach, he later built the perfect mansion as his wedding gift to Mayte.  The house was a place where Prince was at his happiest and also at his most miserable.

With the tragic loss of his son, a week after birth, and later breakdown of his marriage, Prince vowed never to set foot in the house again

The house still retains some of the original detail from their days of living there, but has now been renovated and is up for sale at 5.6 million euros.

Covering 890 square meters on a plot measuring almost 6,000 square meters, the house exudes luxury from every angle.  The property has a huge imperial staircase and a spectacular chandelier.  The floors in all eleven bedrooms (with en suite with private terrace) are marble.  On site there is an outdoor swimming pool (heated) together with Jacuzzi, as well as a gym and tennis court right next to the beautiful tropical garden.

So there you go, luxurious home or perfect holiday getaway all for you, if you have that kind of money!

Heat Wave forecast on the Costa del Sol, Spain this December!

Haha, we're not talking about the weather here, but with the current climate change situation, I suppose anything is possible.

No, this is about one of the most popular soul bands from the 1970's, Heatwave, who are coming to play on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca in Spain.

If you are visiting Marbella, they will be playing a show at the Hotel Don Carlos on December 14, 2013. They will also be appearing at the Clock House in San Pedro, Alicante on December 16, 2013.

Famous for a string of hits, including "Always and Forever" and "Boogie Nights", they can still rock your socks off. The band is currently touring with Alexander O’Neal and opened for Earth, Wind and Fire on tour in the UK last year.

If interested in seeing them live, tickets are on sale from the hotline: +34 966 792 595 or at www.heatwavepromotions.com.

Coronation Street star Kym Lomas is sunning in Marbella

Kym Lomas is enjoying a well-deserved break from her work on the popular soap opera, Coronation Street.

Enjoying a "girly holiday" in Marbella, the former Hear Say singer is in upmarket Marbella with  former WAGs Nicola T and Elen Rivas and ‘Hollyoaks’ star Sheree Murphy.

Reportedly friends of the soapie star are said to be concerned about her marriage to Jamie Lomas after he joined rival soap ‘EastEnders’.

With Kym's on-going role as Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, this means that the couple will be forced to spend five days a week apart.  Kym will continue to be based in Manchester, while hubby will be filming ‘EastEnders’ in London.

Marbella now second-most expensive beach destination in Spain

Marbella is the place to be for many celebrities, footballers and reality TV stars, who enjoy lying on the endless sandy beaches and dining in style in the local restaurants. It is now also the second-most expensive beach destination in Spain.

Celeb spotters have seen Naomi Campbell (top model), Nicole Scherzinger (US singer/songwriter) and Ashley Cole (top UK footballer) in town recently, enjoying the sun and sangria, either in the luxurious Puerto Banus or on the beaches of the Golden Mile.

On June 30, former Police member, Sting, was in town giving a concert as part of his latest world tour.

Now it is being said that Marbella is second only to Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza in terms of luxury and expensive holidays. The town is also the most searched for destination on the holiday comparison website, Trivago.

Naturally, all this luxury comes with a price and the average night in Marbella will knock you back 190 euros, while in Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza, the average price is 286 euros, to lay down your weary head.

Salou will cost around 166 euros, Costa Adeje 157 euros and Puerto de Alcudia and Playa de Palma are an expensive average of 146 euros.

Several other Spanish tourist spots are also increasing their prices by on average 28%, including Torremolinos, Lanzarote, Playa Blanca, Roquetas de Mar and Almunecar.

But not to worry, for those on a more conservative budget, several destinations have actually lowered their prices by 3% recently, including Fuengirola, Conil, Torrevieja, Llanes, Salou or Benicàssim.

Police find hashish stuffed sardines in a luxury villa in Marbella

Police discovered the frozen sardines in a truck en route from Morocco this week, and found them to have a rather unusual herbal stuffing — around 900 kilos of hashish.

The operation, which was codenamed "Maria," was run by customs officials, who tracked the cargo from Morocco to a dockside warehouse in Cádiz, from where it traveled to a luxury villa in Marbella

Reportedly, police had been monitoring the gang for over a month, since the syndicate leader arrived in Spain from Morocco to plan the shipment. The operation led to the arrest of 14 suspected traffickers, together with the confiscation of cannabis worth more than €3.6 million.

A police spokesman told the media, “Officers found 325 kilos of hashish hidden inside the frozen sardines in the refrigeration truck.” “A further 570 kilos was intercepted in a warehouse of El Puerto de Santa María in Cádiz,” he added.

Another hashish bust just down the coast:

It seems this wasn't the only hashish bust in the past week, as apparently a luxury pleasure craft off Almuñécar’s Velilla beach was seized by the Guardia Civil with 300 kilos of hashish on board.

Two men, aged 36 and 31, both Spaniards and both from Málaga, were arrested in the bust. One of the men has been arrested before for drug running.

That particular action was part of Plan Telos, a police operation started at the beginning of the year to heighten land, sea and air vigilance over the North African drug route.

The proximity of Morocco to the Costa del Sol invites many illegal incursions of this kind and police have to keep up the fight constantly.

Call the Police, I missed the concert!

Turns out Sting was in Marbella, just down the road, and I had no idea.

The British singer, with a spectacular career spanning three decades, wowed fans with renditions of his best loved hits, including Roxanne, Every Breath You Take and So Lonely.

Former Police frontman, Sting, performed in Marbella as part of his latest tour which will take in 60 cities around the world.

The concert was held on June 30 in the Puente Romano Tennis Club.  Damn.

Gibraltarian & two others detained in Marbella for illegal weapons

Spain's National Police have this past week detained a Gibraltarian and two other men for the illegal possession of over 11 firearms, along with a large cache of ammunition.

The 44-year-old native of Gibraltar is suspected of being the ringleader of a Marbella-based illegal weapons network, thought to facilitate the sale of weapons to multiple criminal organizations.

Investigations began several months ago, after a gardener working in a Marbella urbanization found a collection of cartridges, and called the police.

The tip led the National Police to the home of the Gibraltar native in Marbella, which was close to where the cartridges were found, and who was already known to police for his involvement in drug trafficking.

The weapons seized by police included five assault rifles with long-range scopes, six handguns, including a pistol with laser pointer, and a pen gun.

Investigations also uncovered a large quantity of ammunition, a vehicle and 500 grams of hashish.

Police believe that the man could have used the weapons in such illegal activities as armed robberies and drug raids.

Of the other two men detained in the raid, one was believed to have been working inconspicuously as a gardener, while the other had a criminal record for possession of weapons, ammunition and explosives. They are suspected to have helped store the weapons between transactions.

Naomi Campbell in Puerto Banús, Marbella on the Costa del Sol

Latest news from Puerto Banús is a celebrity spotting - it seems super-model Naomi Campbell is on the scene, possibly to recover from her separation from her rich Russian boyfriend.

Naomi is apparently spending her summer holidays on the Costa del Sol, at the invitation of a wealthy Saudi family.

Sur in English is reporting that, just a fortnight ago, German supermodel Claudia Schiffer was spotted out and about on the Costa, and now Naomi Campbell is in town.

All reports are saying that she looks fantastic, even though now aged 43, and despite her separation from the Russian millionaire Vladislav Doronin, she looks as though she hasn't got a care in the world.
Known throughout the world as the ‘ebony goddess’, Naomi reportedly interrupted her initial stay in the sunshine by flying to Paris for its fashion week. Then she was invited back to Marbella by a wealthy Saudi sheikh and his family.

She has since been seen several times dining out at the Antonio restaurant, in the company of her hosts.

Now everyone is wondering if she is just on holiday, or possibly looking for yet another suitor?  Seems Puerto Banús and Marbella are the places to be for celeb spotting!
